Winners rationale

Winning in a fiercely competitive category isn’t easy.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s Asia Growth Strategy outshone peers in its Morningstar category by achieving top quartile performance on a three-month, six-month, year-to-date, one-year, two-year, three-year, and five-year basis3. Compared with its benchmark, the Strategy demonstrated outperformance in both short and long-term performance, delivering excess returns for investors.

Of particular note was the Strategy performance through different market conditions, especially in volatile markets. From 3Q15 through to 3Q20, the Strategy outperformed 81% of the time by delivering positive relative returns in 17 of the past 21 quarters3.

In March 2020, J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s Asia Growth Strategy was upgraded by Morningstar to Silver analyst rating4, which can be attributed to solid leadership, stable supporting cast and well-codified investment approach. Helping the Strategy is the stellar experience of its managers — Joanna Kwok, a portfolio manager with 23 years of industry experience, and 19 at the firm, alongside 24-year industry veteran Mark Davids, who is also a portfolio manager5. Kwok has notched up several fund manager awards over the years.

To achieve the consistent outperformance, J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s research team helps set the standard in the asset management industry in terms of scope, quality and reliability.

The team for J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s Asia Growth Strategy covers 790 companies in Asia Pacific with a significant ramp-up in China A-shares to over 260 names2. By adopting a common framework for comprehensive strategic and financial analysis, J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s platform allows comparisons to be made across locations and sectors, and delivers analyses with common outputs in a single format.

Client engagement was a strong point as well: J.P. Morgan Asset Management held more than 130 plus virtual events in 2020 with more than 170,000 clients in attendance2.

J.P. Morgan truly distinguished itself from peers in terms of performance, stock picking, and client services in what was a challenging period for Asian equities. For that, it wins Asian Private Banker’s Best Fund Provider – Asia Equity.
