Charles Monat Associates has confirmed via a press statement that it has hired the former head of wealth planning services at BNP Paribas Wealth Management APAC, who will take over as Hong Kong CEO at the global wealth solutions firm next month, following an exclusive report by Asian Private Banker last Thursday.

Berry Wong joins Charles Monat as Hong Kong CEO effective from 18 August, and will report directly to Yves Guélat, Charles Monat’s group CEO. Wong will join the operational committee “in order to enhance the firm’s product and service offering for high net worth clients in Hong Kong, as well as through its ongoing partnership with Willis Towers Watson”, the firm said.

Also, Charles Monat said it has received regulatory approval for the management buyout of Willis Towers Watson’s global wealth solutions business.

Before Wong resigned from BNP Paribas Wealth Management, he oversaw the development, strategy, and organisation of the French lender’s wealth planning solutions activities, which cover wealth planning services and trust and fiduciary services.

Prior to this role, Wong was with HSBC Private Bank, where he was a senior director of wealth planning, based in Hong Kong. His coverage included Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and the Philippines.

Wong said: “It would be hard not to be excited by the vast opportunities that exist in Asia as new generations begin to define their own future.”

As part of Charles Monat’s agreement with Willis Towers Watson, it will gain ongoing access to, and sales of, services and insurance products from Willis Towers Watson globally.
