Best International Private Bank – CIO Office

Prashant Bhayani

chief investment officer Asia

“We are deeply honoured to receive the Best International Private Bank – CIO Office.

“The BNP chief investment office is the engine generating superior, long-term returns tailored to the risk tolerance of our clients. Importantly, the CIO views serve as the foundation of our investment strategy and asset allocation advice across discretionary and advisory functions illustrating the depth and breadth of our investment services capabilities. It is the investment gateway for earning the distinction of ‘trusted advisor’ to our clients.

“Thank you to APB for this prestigious award and it further energises the CIO team to continue to innovate in the future.”

What was behind the judges’ decision?

  • BNP Paribas WM’s CIO outperformed through decisive asset allocation shifts, including an overweight stance on global equities (Nov 2022), global and investment grade bonds (Oct 2023), and Japan equities. Its long-standing bullish gold call yielded over 34%, while its fixed-income strategies positioned bonds for equity-like returns in a rate-cutting environment. It reiterated a buy on China equities since early 2024, calling a correction in March and a renewed buy in July, driven by policy support, tech, AI, and green energy.
  • Leveraging the Black-Litterman framework, proprietary risk models, and sophisticated statistical methods, BNP Paribas WM’s CIO delivers optimised, forward-looking asset allocation. The OCIO Global Asset Allocation Advisory Service has driven a strong year-on-year increase in assets analysed and a significant boost in client engagement and revenues.
  • BNP Paribas WM has successfully expanded its CIO content strategy with digital-first initiatives, including the CIO chatroom for real-time market discussions. The team also produces daily market reports and weekly podcasts. These initiatives have deepened client relationships and significantly scaled engagement since launch.

What we said…

“BNP Paribas Wealth Management’s CIO office has demonstrated exceptional investment leadership, driving record-breaking performance across asset classes, innovative advisory solutions, and superior client engagement,” said Audrey Raj, senior consultant, South Asia editor of Asian Private Banker.

“A forward-looking investment process underpinned by proprietary multi-asset allocation models and lead indicators has delivered strong outperformance across 1, 3, and 5-year periods. The CIO team’s ability to anticipate market shifts – turning overweight on global equities in November 2022 ahead of consensus, overweighting global investment grade bonds at the peak of yields in October 2023, and reinforcing its Japan equity call – has resulted in superior returns for clients.

“Beyond asset allocation, BNP Paribas WM has pioneered a data-driven approach to risk and return forecasting using advanced methodologies. The launch of the OCIO Global Asset Allocation Advisory Service has also unlocked significant family office client engagement, with billions in assets analysed.

“Furthermore, BNP Paribas WM has transformed client outreach through a multi-channel digital strategy, including the market daily, weekly podcasts, and the newly launched CIO chatroom. For these reasons, the team has earned the title of Best International Private Bank – CIO Office. Congratulations on the win.”
