Bottom Line: Private banking’s big night out at the industry’s ‘Oscars’

Asian Private Banker Awards for Distinction 2025 at The Henderson, Hong Kong

The lights dim, the room settles, and the industry’s biggest names take their seats. In a sea of black tuxedos and evening gowns, anticipation builds as the winners are announced on stage.

Last week, the Asian Private Banker Awards for Distinction 2025 unfolded in true Oscars fashion — a black-tie spectacle celebrating the very best in private banking and wealth management across Asia Pacific.

Widely regarded as the “Oscars of private banking,” the ceremony brought together the industry’s top decision-makers not just to receive honours, but to reconnect. Like Hollywood’s biggest night, it was as much about reunion as recognition: bosses catching up with long-time peers, competitors sharing a laugh, and leaders strengthening relationships forged over decades.

Now in its 15th year, the Asian Private Banker Awards for Distinction remains the region’s most respected accolades. Many institutions have supported the programme since its early days, helping shape it into the platform it is today, a testament to the credibility and importance of the APB awards.

Behind the scenes, the APB editorial team reviewed more than 220 submissions and spent over 110 hours in pitch meetings. Each submission goes through a rigorous evaluation process and is judged purely on merit, reflecting the careful scrutiny and deliberation behind every decision.

A huge thank you to the editorial team whose tireless dedication, journalistic expertise, and deep industry insights make the programme possible year after year. Your commitment ensures that every winner is truly deserving and that the awards continue to reflect the very best in private banking across Asia.

Among the top honours, UBS was named Best Private Bank – Asia Pacific, Julius Baer secured Best Private Bank – Pure Play, Standard Chartered Private Bank took Best Private Bank – Greater China, and Union Bancaire Privée was recognised as Best Boutique Private Bank – Asia Pacific.

On the individual side, Jimmy Lee was named Private Banker of the Year, alongside standout leaders Benoit Douchin, Horace Yip, Jaye Chiu and Shilpi Chowdhary. The full list of winners can be found here.

Just days after the ceremony, the industry marked International Women’s Day, a timely reminder of the changing face of leadership in private banking. From front-line relationship managers to market heads and C-suite executives, women are increasingly shaping strategy, culture, and client engagement across the region. The progress is clear.

As the spotlight from last week’s celebrations continues to shine, it is not only a moment to honour award winners but also to recognise the broader progress within the industry. The achievements acknowledged on stage reflect a sector evolving in strength, diversity, and ambition.

Congratulations to all winners — and a Happy International Women’s Day!
