What was behind the judges’ decision?

  • During the period under consideration, Credit Suisse made several bold equity market calls that turned out to be extremely prescient, generating significant outperformance for clients. These included warning of the risks of war in Europe in January 2022 and urging clients to buy energy-related names as a result. In May, the bank told clients to buy a two-month, fixed-coupon note tied to Chinese tech names, which ultimately generated a 40% annualised yield
  • Because of the challenging market conditions for long positions in 2022, Credit Suisse demonstrated a strong willingness to innovate in derivatives and hedging ideas. For example, the bank traded a substantial notional value in bearish decumulators and twin-win products (which allow clients to benefit from downside but also to a certain extent any upside) during the period under consideration for the Awards for Distinction. In addition, Credit Suisse’s market-leading trading platform allowed clients to enjoy fast pricing quotations, swift execution and competitive pricing
  • While Credit Suisse’s equity advisory in Asia-Pacific business suffered a decline in overall revenues amid market volatility, in relative terms its performance in this regard was one of the stronger among private banks in the region. In addition, its hit rate for equity ideas (i.e. the proportion of those with a positive return after 12 months) was one of the best in Asia-Pacific
