We are delighted to receive this award, which reflects our efforts in finding the right solutions to address client needs. In an extremely challenging environment for fixed income, we completely revamped our strategy and offering in 2022 and focused on an integrated approach across cash and synthetic fixed income solutions. This approach helped clients navigate market uncertainty and stay ahead, despite the headwinds. As a result of our differentiated approach, we helped achieve spectacular results for both clients and our business.

What was behind the judges’ decision?

  • Despite the rising interest rate environment, BNP Paribas Wealth Management recorded a significant increase in revenues derived from its fixed income business in Asia-Pacific. That was a direct result of the bank’s focus on offering structured fixed income solutions to its regional client base, such as short-duration credit-linked notes, which provide higher margin for the bank and more downside protection for clients
  • In 2022, the bank routinely demonstrated its ability to present lucrative tactical opportunities to its client base. Event-driven calls included Keppel’s takeover of Singapore Press Holdings, providing 3.85% outperformance over a short period, and a six-month access note linked to Korea Development Bank, offering a yield pick-up of 0.55% per annum
  • Drawing on the strength of the group-wide capabilities of BNP Paribas, the wealth manager improved its research capabilities in the fixed income universe, including faster time-to-market for updates on key issuers. Notably, the bank shifted clients’ fixed income AUM further towards those names with higher ESG ratings, compared to 12 months ago

What we said

While many wealth clients in the region retreated from bonds in 2022 due to the rising interest rate environment, BNP Paribas Wealth Management increased revenues in its fixed income advisory as it generated major income opportunities for clients, said Daniel Shane, editor, Asian Private Banker.

That is a reflection of BNP Paribas Wealth Management’s astute decision to re-direct its regional fixed income business towards structured solutions. For this reason, BNP Paribas WM was the clear winner of our award for Best Private Bank – Fixed Income Advisory at the 12th Awards for Distinction.
