Across both the Hong Kong and Singapore editions, the most powerful fund selector leaders and their teams, in charge of over $1.5trn of assets, will be in attendance to examine and discuss the ever changing demands of the Asian client, what’s on their wish lists for the coming year, and how best to navigate volatile market conditions. Product manufacturers will join the discussion to present their latest strategies and engage in in-depth analysis of what products should be in clients’ crosshairs for the coming year.

10:15 – 12:30 Breakout sessions

Workshop 1: Why Japan core value investing?

The outlook for the Japanese stock market remains optimistic in the mid- to long-term, driven by a shift to an inflationary economy, corporate governance improvements, and a growing interest in equity culture, supporting high-value stocks. As the investment arm of Mizuho Financial Group, Asset Management One will provide insights into investment opportunities in Japan, particularly in core value investing. Kazuhiko Hosaka, a senior product specialist, will discuss the benefits of Japan equity from several perspectives: the inflationary economy supporting BOJ policy normalisation, corporate reforms, the impact of New NISA, and the trend towards large-cap value investing. He will also explain how a Japanese fund manager uses a bottom-up stock selection approach to aim for market outperformance, specifically targeting the TOPIX Index.

Speaker:

Kazuhiko Hosaka
Senior Product Specialist, Asset Management One

Workshop 2: Private credit – A global evergreen strategy in direct lending and asset-backed finance

Private credit presents a compelling alternative to traditional financial instruments, particularly in direct lending and asset-backed finance. In today’s volatile market, private credit offers attractive risk-adjusted returns due to its flexibility and lower correlation with traditional asset classes. Jason Phillips from KKR’s Asia Credit team will delve into how private credit can function as a strategic asset class. He will explore the growth in direct lending, address the potential benefits of asset-backed finance as a safeguard against market volatility, and discuss strategies for mitigating risks while pursuing attractive returns. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of private credit, with a special focus on why a global evergreen strategy would be an ideal option for private wealth investors to consider. Discover how these insights can enhance your investment strategy and navigate the complexities of the current financial landscape.

Speaker:

Jason Phillips
Director of Asia Credit Team, KKR

Workshop 3: Navigating economic shifts – The long-term value of flexibility in equity investing

Over the past decades, the global economy has faced profound changes and uncertainty due to shifting economic conditions, geopolitical volatility, disruptions like the pandemic, and innovations such as generative AI. Amidst this turbulence where growth and value are difficult to call, maintaining a flexible approach will enable investors to adapt quickly to changing conditions. Maneesh Bajaj, CFA and portfolio manager, will explore how a long-term orientation and business owner’s mindset can help investors navigate market fluctuations and benefit from compounding returns. Rejecting the simplistic “growth vs. value” classification, he will emphasise maintaining an open mind toward all investment opportunities. Using top-performing firms as examples, Maneesh will argue that investors can consistently navigate market complexities and deliver strong performance over time by focusing on good businesses at ‘bargain’ prices.

Speaker:

Maneesh Bajaj
Portfolio Manager, Brown Advisory

Workshop 4: Stay the course in Asia’s evolving landscape with lower beta and abundant alpha

The Asia ex-Japan equity market is considered to be the fastest-growing in the world, presenting an attractive entry point for investors from its low valuations coupled with the recent shake-up. Though Asian equities face a substantially lower concentration conundrum in comparison to US markets, the performance trajectory often reveals a challenging path. Market turbulence, including concerns of the risks of a potential US recession, alongside other heightened geopolitical tensions, has increased uncertainty and fluctuation. Eastspring Investments’ award-winning low volatility strategy aims to mitigate the impact of such an environment, offering a smoother ride for investors. Dr. Michael Sun, client portfolio manager and director of quant capability, will describe the power of a lower beta and abundant alpha, allowing one to capture upside while being more resilient to downside volatility, capitalising on a combination of factors to gain sustainable growth.

Speaker:

Michael Sun
Client Portfolio Manager, Eastspring Investments

12:45 – 13:15 Venturing beyond the conventional – Tapping specialist insights for hidden private market gems

  • How can private banks leverage specialised asset managers – particularly those who focus on the middle-market space – to uncover hidden investment opportunities and enhance value creation in the alternatives markets?
  • What are the key attributes of an effectively managed semi-liquid fund, and in what ways does it vary from traditional asset allocation between liquid and illiquid assets?
  • What methods can advisors use to manage client expectations regarding illiquid long-term funds, while emphasising their vital role in preserving generational wealth?
