Gaining the infrastructure edge – Engineering superior DPM portfolios with resilience and stability In an era where seeking investment opportunities becomes ever more crucial for investment portfolios, European and UK infrastructure debt presents a compelling proposition. Infrastructure assets play a crucial role in the global economy by delivering essential services to society, while investment opportunities are expanding to align with global trends such as decarbonisation and digitalisation. With low correlation to market cycles, robust cash flow profiles and predictable income streams, infrastructure debt provides stability in uncertain markets. This session will dive deep into how fund managers and private banks are incorporating this asset class to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns and enhanced portfolio resilience for their clients. Where do the opportunities lie today and is it a good time to invest? How can DPM mandates capitalise on infrastructure debt’s growth story, and what will drive client adoption in this space in 2025? Beyond traditional risk-return – Exploring Asia’s low volatility in both equities and bonds Conventional finance theory argues that achieving higher returns requires taking on greater risks. An anomaly exists, however, where – over the long term – low volatility stocks often outperform their higher volatility counterparts. This anomaly exists broadly across Asia’s equity markets, offering strong downside protection when markets are volatile. At the same time, total return Asian bonds can offer superior downside risk management to achieve lower portfolio volatility. How can investors capitalise on the low volatility anomaly in Asia’s equity markets? How can we employ multiple risk levers in the Asian bond markets to provide return asymmetry, i.e. stronger than market returns in an upcycle, but able to turn more defensive in a downcycle? Building resilient portfolios in China’s changing landscape – alpha or beta? While the spotlight has been on the US, Chinese equities continue to offer diversification and long-term growth potential in sectors like domestic consumption, industrialization, green energy, and electric vehicles. In the current investment landscape, a selective, bottom-up approach is crucial given the ongoing market volatility and regulatory changes. This session will analyse insights from recent NPC and CPPCC meetings, examine potential policy measures to navigate US trade tensions, and identify growth opportunities to uncover alpha from China.
