Regulatory crackdowns and renewed scrutiny of different sectors within China have given global markets cause for concern in the past six months. With some onshore darlings of investors’ portfolios still in the regulatory crosshairs, how is this translating into the current appetite for Chinese assets from global investors, particulary given the regulatory vision that could herald market changing opportunities for the region’s wealth management industry?
When balancing the opportunities heralded by the GBA, the Hengqing & Macau Plan, and the Hainan free trade zone with uncertainty of the impact of further scrutiny and focus on key Chinese market sectors, how do investors cut through the noise and where should they be focusing? How investable is the onshore market and onshore companies when balancing the past 12 months with the potential of the next 20 years? Which sectors should investors be looking at and what signals should they be looking for in terms of economic milestones?
