The future of client engagement: how can private banks deliver more effective and relevant advice, services and solutions to clients in the digital era?



Within the private wealth management sector, the inability for physical client engagement over the past six months has led private banks to focus their efforts on their digital and analytics infrastructure to enable them to serve their clients effectively. Beyond virtual meetings, the overarching challenge is how to understand and communicate – both internally and externally – changes to how banks now have to conduct business, and how new systems, analytics and data mechanisms can have as positive impact on performance. As private banks in Asia continue to grapple with the impact of forced change in how they operate – from being unable to travel to see clients, to reviewing portfolios remotely – how are they maximising all the relevant tools available to them, and galvanising their front line staff in preparedness for a ‘new normal’ in client engagement.

About the speakers

Evy Theunis
Executive Director – Head Customer Segment and Customer Science, DBS Bank

Evy heads the customer segment and customer science division of DBS’s consumer banking group.

As part of this role, she is responsible for driving scalable business growth by delivering data led customer and distribution operating models, frontline tooling, and hyper-personalized digital offerings available to the bank’s wealth segments.

Prior to joining DBS, Evy worked as a consultant in Financial Services for over 10 years, leading design, delivery and deployment of digital platforms across Europe and Asia.

She is passionate about her healthy lifestyle, spending time outdoors, and being with her family.

Evy has a Master of Science in Information Technology obtained at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.

Kevin Herbert
Managing Director, Co-Head, North Asia, HSBC Private Banking

Kevin was appointed Co-Head, North Asia of HSBC Private Banking in November 2013.

Kevin joined the HSBC Group in 1987 in the UK and worked across various offices in the banks, Commercial Banking and Retail Banking divisions. In 1992, Kevin then moved offshore to Guernsey and Jersey in the Channel Islands to head up the banks International Premier proposition. Since then, Kevin has been based in Asia since 2002 working in senior management roles within HSBC Private Banking in Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Kevin is an Associate of The London Institute of Banking and Finance with a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Services.

Ronan Leonard
Head of Market Development Wealth for APAC, Refinitiv

Ronan is the Head of Market Development, Wealth Management – APAC, for Refinitiv based in Sydney.

His role is to drive the Wealth strategy for the region, identifying industry trends and suitable partners for Refinitiv’s open data platform and building integrated advisor and investor solutions.

He works closely with Private Banks, Retail brokers, Private Wealth Management firms and Platforms.

Ronan has worked with financial software vendors for a decade including Business Development roles across stockbroking, financial planning and private wealth.

He has a BA Honours Degree in Finance.

Sebastian Enberg (Moderator)
Editor, Asian Private Banker

Sebastian Enberg is the Editor of Asian Private Banker. His background is in international politics, and Chinese foreign policy and security.

Sebastian graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Master of Strategic Studies majoring in Strategic Intelligence, and more recently, from the City University of Hong Kong with a Master of Arts. In 2012, Sebastian was awarded the university’s Top Scholar Prize for his cohort.
