Vi Sun Yang

Market Head, Southeast Asia, Julius Baer

From mentoring the next generation to discussing arts, Vi Sun Yang is far from a typical private banker. Her 30 years of industry experience have made her career path both rich and versatile.

Having transitioned from group head for Southeast Asia to now co-lead market head for the region, Yang is responsible for driving the bank’s growth initiatives, strengthening client relationships, and guiding teams across Southeast Asia under a dual leadership model.

In her three years with Julius Baer, what has resonated most with Yang is bringing together relationship managers of varying experience and backgrounds on a shared journey of transformation and growth.

As the bank has evolved over recent years, Yang shared that she has remained committed to providing her team with focus, clarity, and transparency, always celebrating their performance and successes while maintaining open, honest conversations.

“I believe that taking this kind of care in leadership has been a hallmark of my professional journey,” Yang noted.

A seasoned wealth management veteran with three decades of experience, Yang enjoyed a career at UBS before moving to Julius Baer, where she held several senior leadership roles, including market head for Indonesia and global lead market head for Indonesia.

What keeps her grounded and continuously motivated is seeing her colleagues grow and thrive, knowing she has made a positive impact on their careers.

“Witnessing genuine depth in client relationships, and earning their trust to handle challenging matters, such as wealth transition to the next generation, is a constant reminder of the deep responsibility we carry and the importance of doing our best for every client,” she said.

While considering herself a prolific sourdough baker, Yang has recently taken up knitting. She believes both activities emphasise patience, attention to detail, and long-term cultivation—qualities that closely parallel the mindset needed to build and lead a successful wealth management career and business.

“I find the same qualities are essential in knitting. Countless times, I’ve had to alter, adapt or reinvent my approach to solve problems, but I always come out stronger, better and more confident in my ability to deal with the curveballs,” she said.

Yang holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with first class honours from the National University of Singapore, a Master of Science in wealth management from the University of Rochester, William E. Simon School of Business, and a Master of Advanced Studies in finance from the University of Bern.
