Market Head South East Asia, Japan and Asia Switzerland, Julius Baer
Shui Wei Ho did not set out to pursue private banking, but came to define her career.
From working in London to Switzerland, the current market head for Southeast Asia, Japan, and Asia Switzerland at Julius Baer, has now found her rhythm in private banking back home in Singapore.
“My career hasn’t followed a straight line, and I have played the cards I was dealt, navigating across sectors and markets and consistently stepping up to expanded roles,” Ho shared.
Starting her career at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Ho spent over 8 years there. Her journey then took her to UBS, first in investment banking and later in private banking. Her private banking career was further shaped when she joined Bank of Singapore in 2014, which was then a relatively young private bank.
She later joined Julius Baer in 2022 and today oversees group heads, senior client partners, and the bank’s strategic joint ventures in Thailand and Japan.
While the market has not followed a straight upward path during her three years with the bank, she takes pride in being entrusted to lead teams, drive growth, turn businesses around to profitability, and deepen engagement across multiple levels.
“Across every role, I have focused on hiring and nurturing top talent, ensuring that both the business and the people within it continue to thrive. I believe that real growth happens when we step out of our comfort zones –something I encourage in my teams and try to do myself,” Ho emphasised.
She is also motivated by the opportunity to multiply the gifts and experiences she has been given by helping others find their strengths and watching them succeed.
“The fast-paced environment of leadership calls for accountability and the ability to make decisions even when all the information isn’t available. Authentic connections and the trust built with my teams and clients are what drive me forward,” she explained.
Having lived in multiple countries, Ho has developed a passion for reading, describing “curiosity and willingness” as the forces that have shaped her approach to her career.
“I’m always looking for fresh perspectives—experiences that allow me to spot trends and stay agile in the face of complexity and change,” she said.
Ho holds a Bachelor’s degree with honours in business from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore and is a CFA charter holder.
