Hammad Hashmi

Market Head for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, HSBC Private Bank

From serving as the country head for Pakistan to now overseeing key wealth markets in Southeast Asia, Hammad Hashmi’s career journey that led him to success in the private banking industry has been unique.

Currently, Hashmi manages HSBC’s Global Private Banking coverage for three of Southeast Asia’s largest and most dynamic markets – Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

He began his career more than two decades ago in his home country of Pakistan, spending over a decade covering wealth management for Deutsche Bank before relocating to Singapore in late 2003.

In 2007, Hashmi joined HSBC, later leading the Malaysia market for several years before heading the Indonesia team as desk head. These roles paved the way for his current appointment as market lead, where he now manages some of the region’s fastest-growing markets and teams.

With a wealth of knowledge gained by covering diverse markets, Hashmi has progressed through senior leadership roles across multiple Southeast Asian countries.

Speaking of his inspiration, he says engaging with some of the world’s most accomplished individuals and supporting them in achieving their goals remains one of the most rewarding aspects of his career.

“I am equally inspired by the talented colleagues here at HSBC – from senior leaders to frontline teams – who consistently set high standards and drive excellence.”

As a key leader at a leading institution, Hashmi shared that his MBA journey at the University of Chicago was a defining step in shaping his leadership approach.

Outside the office, he is an avid sports enthusiast. “I have long been passionate about squash and, more recently, golf,” he said.

He credits sports with instilling discipline, focus, and a mindset of continuous improvement – qualities that have guided his professional journey.

Hashmi holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Karachi and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
